CARPENTER'S BENCH

Work bench made from solid alder wood, assembled with dovetail joints which make any loosening practically impossible. Applied to the workbench is the characteristic horizontal vice, worked by two solid wooden screws, turned and finished with real art. The particularly thick work surface rests on solid legs spread at the back ( so called goat's legs) and blocked at the joints by wooden pegs , the legs are also reinforced by two strong wooden beams blocked by wedges. Characteristics of the typical Tuscan bench. On the work surface the raised section ( called "cane") is to keep the wood firm for planing. Work benches like this were in use up to the 60s when the arrival of machinery and industry made them almost redundant and destined to destruction. The example proposed was made in the first half of the 1900s and has a work surface of 160x61 cm., a height of 85 cm., a weight of kg. 85 and maximum overall dimensions of 160x79 cm. including screws and vice.
