A
vessel for transporting wine, used up to the beginning of the
1900s in Tuscany; it has a capacity of about 50 liters, a height
of about 70 cm. and a diameter of about 32 cm. at the base.
Made
entirely of chestnut by manually working strips of wood called
staves ("doghe") and bending them one by one over the
fire, it is assembled and held together by four strong chestnut
hoops hand- worked with real craft and kept in place with a special
closure called a "key" ("chiave")

Used
exclusively for the transport of olive oil, this has a capacity
of 16 liters, a height of about 60 cm. and a diameter of about
23 cm. at the base. Made from strips of chestnut held together
by six strong wooden hoops kept in place by the same key ("chiave")
closure
The
oil barrel has a reduced capacity and a greater number of hoops
to better protect its valuable contents.

Set
of:
1 staved chestnut tub 11 cm. diameter at the bottom and 14 cm.
at the mouth, 19 cm. high excluding handle;
6 Tuscan ladles in beech wood varying from 45 cm. to 28 cm. 1
carving fork 40 cm.;
1 whisk with shaped handle.
All made according to ancient tradition by working fresh beech
wood (just felled) with quite primitive tools for cutting and
quartering. Weight kg 1,100.
